Green Blog?

So my carbon footprint isn’t so bad after all. The Green Lantern says that if you don’t slurp up large amounts of Internet real estate with photos and music videos, and you don’t have too much traffic, the blog’s footprint takes up less space than a microwave. This blog rarely uses pictures, stays short (mostly), and as far as I know is only read by three or four people.

What a relief that I’m not hogging electricity! Of course I should probably be more worried about the multiple heaters and the electric blankets, etc., etc. around the house. I did discover that I could cut our electric bill beaucoup by turning off the router, the computer, the radio and then turning off the power strip. Means that no power is flowing to any of the electronics.

What puzzles me is that sometimes the computer’s battery as been drained and thus uses even more electricity restoring itself. But sometimes it hasn’t. There doesn’t seem to be any correlation between the low battery and the length of the downtime – overnight, over a weekend, it doesn’t matter. It just uses juice when it feels like it. There also seems to be no rhyme or reason why the printer doesn’t want to work after the power strip has been off. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t on the first shot. But it always comes on after a reboot.

Now if only the power strip for the TV weren’t buried behind the entertainment stand and a fully laden bookcase …
